The six-week academy is designed to give citizens an overview of the Department's policies and procedures. The curriculum and teaching methods are similar to the traditional law enforcement academy, but the weekly sessions are not designed to make the participant a law enforcement officer.
Academy classes are taught by the Sheriff's executive and veteran officers. Participants will have the opportunity to meet with the Sheriff and staff members. They are encouraged to ask questions and express their concerns.
Classes meet Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Sublette County Sheriff's office in Pinedale and Marbleton. The academy will culminate the seventh week with a graduation ceremony. Family and friends are welcome to attend.
Academy participants are selected by the Sheriff through an application process. Enrollment is limited to approximately 20 students per academy. For more information, call the Sheriff's Office at (307) 367-4378 or (307) 276-5448.
Potential candidates for the Academy must meet the following criteria:
- Minimum age of 21
- Live or work in Sublette County
- No prior felony convictions
- No misdemeanor arrests within one year of application
Any of the above requirements may be waived upon review and approval of the Sheriff.
